Expanding upon the University of Oregon’s sports complex, this 170,000 SF addition provides a new indoor 130,000 SF practice field as well as 40,000 SF of amenities for the student athletes. Weight rooms, locker rooms, student-athlete lounges overlooking the field and multi-purpose event spaces bridge between the new practice facility and existing football complex.
With a curved roof shell, referencing the Oregon “O”, the practice facility is framed in glulam laminated Pacific northwest timber beams. The center of the roof is a lightweight, transparent ETFE system, allowing in daylight while insulating from exterior temperatures. Coordination across the Design Team helped reach the sustainability goals, including natural ventilation, daylighting, minimizing energy use, and on-site energy generation.
When completed, this will be the largest indoor practice facility in the nation. With a strong incorporation of branding throughout, the facility will be a showcase for the University of Oregon’s identity in collegiate sports.
The project will seek LEED Gold certification by the USGBC.
The project will seek WELL Certification by the IWBI.
